Bachelor Matt Agnew Was 'put On A Strict Diet While Filming'

Matt Agnew was put on a 'strict diet and exercise regime' while filming The Bachelor after piling on the pounds in the months prior while writing his PhD thesis.

Daily Mail Australia can reveal that the 32-year-old was fed 'salmon with steamed vegetables' on most days.

'He needed to get as ripped as possible, as fast as possible, and drop his body fat percentage,' a source close to the Channel 10 dating show explained on Thursday.

The source continued: studybay 'He wasn't necessarily out of shape, but he'd lost definition and bosses were adamant he needed to get toned up again.'

It is claimed that Matt achieved this by following a strict diet, exercising most days between filming and often 'refused' to eat on dates on the show.

One former contestant claimed Matt would often just 'have a nibble' on cheese boards and such while shooting, mostly for the sake of the cameras

'He'd say things like, "I can't have too much, they've got me on a diet",' the former star added, claiming Matt would then wait until he was off set to eat his meals.

It is also believed that a personal trainer was drafted in at one stage, helping Matt shred his body fat as fast as possible.

'The publicity team had a lot of photoshoots planned for the end of production, so they definitely had a deadline for noticeable results,' the source concluded. 

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Channel 10 for comment.

In July, Matt told Now To Love he had previously resorted to an extreme diet of skipping meals to drop the extra kilos he'd put on while studying at university. 

'So I usually only really have coffees, I don't do breakfast. Sometimes I'll skip lunch,' he began. 

'I eat in a smaller window, sometimes only 4-6 hours in the evening. They're a lot of proteins, lean meats, salads, yogurts.'

Speaking of the months leading up to filming, he told Courier Mail: 'I just couldn't get to the gym as often. I just kind of put on a few kilos.

He continued: 'Leading up to submitting the PhD dissertation there was a lot of work obviously. I was running low on time [to work out].'
